Microfinancing

I’ve been learning a lot about microfinancing lately. It’s brilliant. Right now I’ve started to share with Kiva. You can check out my lending page for more info. I’m reading a book on microfinancing as well called A Billion Bootstraps. It’s really exciting to see how this process works and the way it is impacting countries. I’ll be posting the info on it in the upcoming weeks.

So on Tuesday as usual we had our small group meeting and went through chapter four of The Good News About Injustice. I also sold $125 worth of beads for women in Uganda. Check out their website Bead for Life for more info.

Dear Francis

Just bought and watched Dear Francis for the second time. Here’s a blurb and some facts with a trailer attached:

Dear Francis puts a face to the AIDS pandemic as it chronicles the personal stories of two strangers and the Swazis they befriend. Through these relationships, they discover that the causes of this plague are much more disturbing and complex than they could have ever imagined.

Swaziland AIDS facts:
- Of those between the ages of 15-23, 53% of are HIV positive.
- Of rural Swazis, 20% of the children are orphans from HIV/AIDS
- 88% of 15 year-old boys will be dead by 2015 because of AIDS.

Piazza Was in Town

Former Dodger and future Hall of Famer Mike Piazza was playing for the Ports on a rehab trip. Here’s some pics of Terrie, Jaquie and I. The game wasn’t that exciting and Piazza’s only hit was a bouncer between short and thirdimg00065.jpgimg00036.jpg

Bono at 2007 NAACP Awards

“To those in the church who still sit in judgment on the AIDS emergency, let me climb into the pulpit for just one moment. Whatever thoughts we have about God, who He is or even if God exists, most will agree that God has a special place for the poor. The poor are where God lives. God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house. God is where the opportunity is lost and lives are shattered. God is with the mother who has infected her child with a virus that will take both their lives. God is under the rubble in the cries we hear during wartime. God, my friends, is with the poor and God is with us if we are with them.”

You can stop holding your breath the blog is back. I’m probably going to post at a slower rate, maybe every other day as opposed to 3 items a day. It is true the tortoise does beat the hare.
